Pantothenic acid deficiency acne and salicylic acid for acne

For most of us, acne is something we have to deal with in the teenage years. Remember getting that pimple on your nose the same week as prom? Remember when stress of finals or the grease from school lunches would cause massive breakouts at the most socially inopportune time? Well, for most of us, those days are behind us. However, for those among us who choose to use anabolic steroids for greater physical development, acne is often an unhappy reality.
Certain types of bacteria are resident on the skin. P. acnes is found on most skin but in acne prone individuals the P. acnes grows uncontrollably. The growth of the P. acnes is aided by the anaerobic conditions created by the plug of dead cells and oils within the skin pores. The bacteria digest the oil within the pores and produces a waste product. This waste product irritates the pore walls causing inflammation.
At the onset of puberty, the high levels of androgens; testosterone (dehydrotestosterone), androstenedione and progesterone stimulate an increase in the turn over of the cells lining the surface of the skin which blocks the passage for sebum from the sebaceous glands, leading accumulation, some chronic inflammation and subsequent infection with a bacteria named after the disorder, Propionibacterium acnes, a normal colony of the skin.
